The big, bustling, international city of Stockholm was quite a different experience from small-town Grundsund but very enjoyable in its own unique way. The short remainder of our first afternoon after our cross-country trip was mainly spent exploring the cobblestoned environs of Gamla Stan (pr. “Gahm-lah Stahn, “Old Town”)…and taking a nap (me).
- Visiting Stockholm: First Day. Stockholm is the cleanest major city I’ve ever seen. No trash, no food wrappers thrown out on the street, not even—as my ever proud 1st-generation Swedish-American mother used to say—a gum wrapper. But there were lots of cigarette butts, because there are lots of smokers here it seems.
- Visiting Stockholm: Second Day. This is the day serious metropolitan peregrination began. Vasa Museet: never been inside a museum anything like this.
- Visiting Stockholm: Third Day. Archipelago day. Is there any other city like this on earth? Venice? Lots of water there, too, but not the same as Stockholm.
- Visiting Stockholm: Fourth Day. Icelandair…one, just one long, long day. But I have lots more to say about Icelandair at this link.
